The Newcastle contribution to the IKC is lead by Professor Rishad Shafik. Rishad is Professor in Microelectronic Systems and has research interests in hardware/software co-design applied in energy-efficient and reliable machine learning systems. The aim of the research is ensuring energy efficiency and autonomy at low-cost for current and future generations of electronic systems. Research will investigate how applications, such as artificial intelligence, exercise the underlying hardware architecture and investigate opportunities to:
- reduce complexity in favour of energy reduction
- control power/performance parameters autonomously to ensure energy-efficiency
- develop new architectures that are by-design energy-efficient, autonomous and reliable
The work involves, modeling, prototyping and implementation of low-cost hardware and system-level methodologies.
