Coordination

Engage and inform the UK electronic systems design community

The UK design community currently tends to target offshore manufacturing via standard design practice, leading to decoupling from significant innovation in the UK science base and UK pathways to manufacture. The Centre will engage the UK electronic systems community, bringing together the research and development, systems design engineering, manufacturing and associated activity in semiconductor and electronic systems from across the UK.  It will build an engaged network of collaborators to help the UK adopt the latest advances in Heterogeneous Integration.

Identify UK industry needs, key applications and markets

The UK has in many markets for electronic based systems. These along with Government support under the UK's Modern Industrial Strategy and National Semiconductor Strategy help to define the key applications and markets that the IKC will help underpin. The Centre will pull diverse communities together to help shape the context for the UK activity in HI based systems.

Enable the UK to adopt global advances in HI

The Centre will ensure awareness of UK and global advances in semiconductors, advanced packaging, test and verification, where HI is an enabler to improve system design. It will align efforts with UK industry bodies, IMAPS-UK, TechWorks and globally with industry standards setting organisations such as the IEEE. It will develop and maintain ‘roadmaps’ on key drivers, market trends, methods of design, manufacturing supply chains, etc.

The Centre will deliver a range of knowledge assets to support UK entities including:

  • ‘Secure by Design’ architecture for HI systems
  • Workshops, events and communications
  • Series of UK roadmaps and reports

In summary it will be the ‘go-to place’ for Hetrogenous Semiconductor System design in the UK.
